Sergio Romero has been ruled out of the World Cup in Russia with a knee injury.
Romero has made 94 appearances for Argentina, including starting the 2014 World Cup final, but has been told he requires surgery on his right knee and will miss this summer’s tournament.
Tigres’ Nahuel Guzman has been called into the squad as Romero’s replacement.
Chelsea keeper Willy Caballero is now likely to start for Argentina at the World Cup.
Since joining United in 2015 Romero has made 38 appearances, struggling for minutes as he plays back up to David de Gea..

However Romero has been impressive for United whenever called into action and was United’s first choice keeper in the 2016/2017 Europa League winning campaign.
Argentina’s World Cup kicks off on the 16th June when they face Iceland in Group D before taking on Croatia and Nigeria, hoping to do one better than the last World Cup where they finished as runners-up.
