The news brings an end to United’s 13-year spell without a women’s team following their decision to disband the team back in 2005.
United’s arrival will see West Ham Ladies move up into the Women’s Super League. United will come up against the likes of Charlton, Leicester City, Lewes and Sheffield United, who have all been added to their second tier.
The Manchester club have come in for criticism in recent years for not having a competitive female side, despite the rapid growth of the women’s game.
A restructuring of the league system in the women’s game has seen plenty of change with teams dropping and moving between divisions with clubs having to re-apply for their places in the leagues.
