It is no secret that Jose Mourinho is eager to bring a winger to Old Trafford this summer. Since the transfer window opened at the beginning of the Summer, United have been linked to the likes of Gareth Bale, Willian and Ivan Perisic on a daily basis.
Ivan Perisic was Mourinho’s primary target last summer but a deal never materialised as it seemed Ed Woodward was unwilling to sign off on a cheque worth in excess of £60m.
In truth, it is no surprise that the Perisic rumour has re-surfaced this summer. However, the fee being mentioned now is around £80m.
Unfortunately, from Jose Mourinho’s perspective at least, the move appears to be dead in the water and it seems he will have to pursue over avenues before the transfer window slams shut in two weeks.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the Croat is keen to extend his stay at the San Siro; despite the interest of Manchester United and Jose Mourinho.
Perisic impressed for Croatia at the World Cup and was a vital component as they impressed on route to the final of the competition, where they came unstuck against the French.
Having scored in the final against France, and against England in the semi-final, his value has increased; but this has not deterred Mourinho.
