Young Boys pitch a concern for Jose Mourinho
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has voiced his concerns over Young Boys’ synthetic pitch, ahead of his side’s Champions League meeting on Wednesday.
The Swiss champions play on artificial turf, which has previously caused problems for several English sides down the years, including Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton, with the latter claiming recovery time was longer after playing on the surface.
Playing on this kind of pitch has been an ongoing controversy on the European stage, and Mourinho admitted that he has attempted to discuss the subject at an annual coaches convention.
But the Portuguese has refused to let the pitch get in the way of United’s preparation, saying the side have a job to do, and implied that they need to adapt to the situation at hand.
Antonio Valencia has been overlooked for this fixture, as he recovers from a reoccurring knee problem, with the artificial pitch seen as a potential risk to aggravating the injury further.
