Backroom bust-ups becoming a problem for United, says Meulensteen
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen believes that Jose Mourinho’s dressing room bust-ups with his players have become a problem for the club, talkSPORT reports.
Just hours before Manchester United were to face Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, news emerged that Paul Pogba had been stripped of his vice captaincy after another falling out with the United boss.
After the third round defeat to Derby, Mourinho did indeed confirm the rumours.
It’s the latest incident of leaked information from within the club, with the visibly deteriorating relationship between Mourinho and Pogba beginning to dominate the club’s media coverage in the back pages of several newspapers.
Speaking to talkSPORT host Jim White on Wednesday, Meulensteen said:
There are too many things coming out, whether from Mourinho or the players, and that causes constant disruptions inside and outside the club.
Obviously there is a problem because there are certain things as a manager between your players you want to keep between the walls of the dressing room.
That is part of the strength of the squad and that’s what you need when you are getting into difficult times, like Man United are in at the moment.
That’s when you need to pull together and close the ranks, rather than throw something out that again opens up the speculation and causes a lot of disruption.
