Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that Paul Pogba was never made United vice-captain, and has confirmed that the position will remain vacant, the Manchester Evening News report.
A clip of the midfielder and Mourinho emerged on Wednesday, which showed the pair having a tense exchange on the training ground following United’s Carabao Cup defeat to Championship side Derby County.
Pogba has already worn the armband three times this season against Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Young Boys, but will not be wearing it again for the remainder of the campaign.
Talking ahead of the early fixture against West Ham, Mourinho admitted that the Frenchman was never actually United vice-captain.
Paul was not the vice-captain. We had Valencia as the captain and then we had the group of players that could be the vice-captain.
One day I give to David de Gea, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling. I thought about Paul already last season because a player of a different generation, younger player and the captain of the future because Valencia, Young they come more or less same age, same generation.
