United targeting Brighton defender Lewis Dunk

Manchester United are interested in bolstering their defence with Brighton and England defender Lewis Dunk.

According to the Daily Express, Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the centre-back who recently made his England debut against the USA at Wembley.

Centre back has been a problem position for United since the departure of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, with players like Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelöf all trying and failing to truly make the position their own.

Even Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick and Scott McTominay have been deployed as emergency centre-backs since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from the club, and Dunk could provide some stability and class in that position.

Dunk has only recently signed a five5-year contract with the Seagulls, extending his stay with the south coast side until 2023, however, a move to a Champions League outfit may tempt him to leave his boyhood club.

Dunk has made over 200 appearances for Brighton and captains the side whenever veteran club captain Bruno is absent, becoming an integral part of Chris Hughton’s defence. It would take a hefty offer to prise Dunk away from Brighton.
