Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed attacking duo Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial suffered muscle injuries in the 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
United failed to make their home advantage count as second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe put the visitors in pole position to progress into the Champions League quarter-finals.
Solskjaer’s side started brightly though, but lost both Lingard and Martial at half-time which took its toll and he revealed the extent of the injuries are unknown to BT Sport after full-time.
You can’t give [the injuries] as a reason [why we lost] because we have players like Mata and Sanchez to come on and they’re quality players. But, of course, Jesse and Anthony give us something. Let’s hope they’re not too serious. They’re muscle injuries, so we’ll just have to wait a couple of days.
United supporters will be praying that both stars recover quickly due to the tough run of fixtures on the horizon.
A trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday is next on the agenda, before next weekend’s huge Premier League clash against title-chasing Liverpool.
