Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on a Bundesliga full-back amid Real Madrid’s interest in Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese has been a mainstay in the starting lineup this season.
Dalot has been at Old Trafford since 2018, when he arrived from FC Porto for £19m. He remains the club’s first-choice right-back under caretaker manager Michael Carrick.
The 26-year-old has emerged as a possible target for Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window. The La Liga giants might be on the lookout for a Dani Carvajal replacement.
Dalot done?
Madrid are long-term admirers of Dalot, who has just over two years left on his contract. Carvajal’s deal expires in June, and there are doubts over his future, per The Real Champs.
Dalot has made 26 appearances across competitions this season. He has scored one goal and provided three assists.
The Portugal international came under criticism during Ruben Amorim’s reign. He was deployed as a wing-back and didn’t possess the pace required for the role.
If United are open to selling Dalot, they will need a replacement. Carrick has preferred the versatile defender over Noussair Mazraoui in recent weeks.
Red Devils ready Ryerson move
A potential option for Manchester United appears to be Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson. A report from SportsBoom claims the Bundesliga giants are open to offers of £30-35 million for the Norwegian.
The club view Ryerson as a “perfect strategic target” and believes he can “solve their long-standing full-back rotation issues.” His “delivery and defensive discipline” are also catching the eye.
Manchester United are planning a comprehensive defensive overhaul. United see Ryerson as the perfect strategic target to solve their long-standing full-back rotation issues, particularly valued for his delivery and defensive discipline.
Should the Reds make a move for the 28-year-old, they face competition from Newcastle United. Liverpool have also monitored the full-back, but they aren’t one of the frontrunners.
Ryerson has made 29 appearances across competitions this season. He’s contributed an incredible tally of 13 assists.
The Norway international’s former manager, Edin Terzic, waxed lyrical back in 2024. He said (via BVB Buzz):
“Julian [Ryerson] is a little underrated. But we are very happy to have him on our team. He works hard for the team and does his job really well. Every team needs a player like him. He’s like a pit bull on the pitch.”
Ryerson is said to be ‘open’ to a Premier League move, which could pave the way for the Reds. He has just over two years on his contract at Signal Iduna Park.
