Manchester United News Today: Casemiro Talks Over New Contract

Fans have been urging Casemiro to stay at Manchester United, and they might get their wish. The Brazilian midfielder’s current contract expires in June, and he’s already announced he is leaving.

Casemiro has been superb this season, rolling back the years with phenomenal performances. That includes vital goals in wins over Aston Villa and Fulham.

United have reportedly been preparing for life without the 34-year-old and drawn up a list of potential replacements. They include the likes of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.

Casemiro Contract Extension Talks

A report from Brazilian outlet RTI Esporte (via Sport Witness) claims the club now see him “again as a useful and reliable option.” There is a one-year option in his contract, which the Reds are reluctant to exercise because of his £ 350,000-per-week wages.

Casemiro’s form has “created space” for talks over a possible renewal, and that would go down extremely well with fans. Chants of “one more year” have been heard at Old Trafford ever since he announced his departure.

A potential renewal will depend on finances, as the player is currently the club’s highest earner. The higher-ups want to reduce this figure, and it’s not certain that he’d be willing to do so.

São Paulo has shown an interest in signing Casemiro, but the player has indicated he is open to staying in England. He wants to continue playing at “the highest level” and this has “frustrated” the Brazilian club.

A possible reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo is another option for the former Madrid man if he leaves United. Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr are long-term admirers, while MLS club Inter Miami are also interested.

INEOS Should do it

Keeping Casemiro is a wise decision if United can agree on terms for a new contract at a decreased salary. He still has plenty to offer, as shown by his importance in the team this season.

That shouldn’t mean a new midfielder doesn’t arrive at Old Trafford as the club can build for the future. Having a youngster such as Baleba or Wharton learn from the five-time Champions League winner could be hugely beneficial.

Casemiro, Manchester United

Casemiro is a proven winner, and he has built a strong bond with Michael Carrick during his short spell playing under the English coach. If Carrick were to stay on, it has been reported that he wants the Brazilian to remain at the Theatre of Dreams.
