- Manchester United enter race to sign Akliouche
- Scouts attended Ligue 1 clash
- Rivals Liverpool also interested
Manchester United sent scouts to attend the Ligue 1 match between AS Monaco and Marseille on Sunday evening.
It has now been reported that the Red Devils have entered the race to sign Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche, with rivals Liverpool also interested.
The Kop are looking for a replacement for the departing Mo Salah, so United could rival them for his signature.
United interested in Akliouche
According to TEAMtalk, United are ‘stepping up’ their interest in signing Akliouche. Scouts were in attendance at Stade Louis II to monitor the Frenchman, who started in a 2-1 win for his side. Former Red Devil Paul Pogba also returned from injury in the game, featuring on the bench.
The interest in the young winger comes as the club look set to qualify for the Champions League. With seven games of the season to play, Michael Carrick’s side finally return to Premier League action next Monday against Leeds.
Akliouche made his breakthrough at the club in 2023/24 under the previous manager Adi Hutter. He has featured 37 times for his club in 2025/26, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists. He has primarily played at right wing, but is also versatile enough to play in other positions. This season, he has also played at centre forward and as an attacking midfielder.
For the Red Devils, adding depth on the wing is crucial as they head into a 50-60 game season next campaign. Usually under Carrick this season, Amad Diallo and Matheus Cunha have occupied the wide positions. He would fit the bill as being an interchangeable forward across the frontline, like many other United attackers in the squad.
He has persevered in a turbulent time for the French club, who are with their second manager of the season. Currently, they are on hot form, having been undefeated in their last ten Ligue 1 matches. In March, he was the starman as Monaco beat European champions PSG 3-1; scoring and providing a goal each.
Future France star in the making
By registering interest in Akliouche, the Reds are looking to capitalise on a player whose valuation will inflate severely in the next season or two. INEOS have created a habit of capturing players before their prime, which is a shift away from signing superstar names.
At the age of 24 years old, he is in a perfect position to catapult onto the major scene. A platform at Old Trafford provides him with a big club to do so.
His career trajectory so far has followed the same pathway as the likes of Thierry Henry and Kylian Mbappe, by coming through the ranks at Monaco. He has come onto the scene in a crucial year for his aspirations at the international level.
The winger is looking to break into Didier Deschamps’ France squad for this summer’s World Cup. The winger has already won seven caps for his nation. Recently, he provided Marcus Thuram with an assist in the 3-1 win against Colombia on 29 March. As long as he finishes the season in a similar form, the winger is expected to be on the plane to North America.
