- Manchester United could make a move for Eduardo Camavinga
- French midfielder has not made enough headway at Real Madrid
- May not even make the French squad
Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling their French midfielder, Eduardo Camavinga, with reports claiming that his future is uncertain and that Los Blancos have become frustrated with his lack of progression.
The Frenchman’s World Cup hopes are also in doubt, with it seemingly likely that he will receive limited playing time at Madrid until the end of the season.
His performance against RCD Mallorca was destitute. At fault for losing track of Manu Morlanes and then slowly returning to the ball for the Mallorcan’s opening goal, the Frenchman has since been the target of criticism.
After the match, manager Alvaro Arbeloa didn’t hesitate to blame him, without naming him. “On a play where we had the numerical advantage, a lapse in concentration cost us a goal,” the Madrid manager explained bitterly. “You lose your marker, you don’t track him, and you pay the price.”
And whilst things are not looking up for Camavinga, it may be an opportunity for Manchester United to snag one of the most promising midfielders in world football as they look to reshape their midfield coming into the 2026/27 season.
Camavinga to United?
In his fifth season at Real Madrid, Camavinga has been unable to impress enough to stay in the squad. This season, earmarked as an integral one, has not gone well enough for Camavinga, and now Madrid are open to selling him.
L’Equipe reports that Real Madrid have grown increasingly frustrated with Camavinga’s lack of progression, and a strong offer could push them into a sale. It also states that United have held talks over Camavinga.
The Frenchman only wants a move to a club competing in the UEFA Champions League next season. He does not sit at the top of United’s midfield shortlist, but his potential availability could shift their focus.
Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson seems to lead that list. Several clubs, including Manchester City, want him, and his price could climb towards £100 million.
Sandro Tonali also continues to gather interest across the Premier League. Reports link him with a move away from Newcastle United, and his situation could trigger a mass exodus of the squad, with a number of key players attracting interest from Europe’s elite.
Could it work?
Standing at six feet, Camavinga offers Manchester United an alternative option alongside Kobbie Mainoo. He does not bring the same bodyguard profile as Mateus Fernandes, nor does he mirror the box-to-box output of Elliot Anderson.
Instead, he brings control. He dictates tempo, plays with elegance, and stretches the pitch with a sharp passing range. He also competes aggressively out of possession, winning 63% of his duels. That edge underpins one of his standout traits: versatility.
Primarily a central or defensive midfielder, Camavinga has also featured at left-back—a position United are actively looking to strengthen. If the Red Devils can get a deal across the line for the price of £40-£60 million, then he could be a fantastic acquisition for a squad which needs more versatility.
