- Manchester United are away in Dublin
- Amad has been speaking about Jack Moorhouse
- Reds youngster is catching the eye
Amad Diallo knows the route from academy hopeful to first-team regular better than most.
The Ivorian winger arrived at Manchester United with huge expectations, spent time in the under-21s, went out on loan, and has now cemented his place as one of the first names on the teamsheet. So when he speaks about a young player trying to make the same journey, it carries some weight.
The player in question is Jack Moorhouse, a 20-year-old central midfielder who has been training with the senior squad under Michael Carrick. Moorhouse was recalled from a loan spell at Leyton Orient in January and has since impressed for the under-21s while occasionally being named on the first-team bench. Now, Amad has offered him some straightforward advice.
Amad’s Message to Moorhouse
Speaking to reporters at a press conference while in Dublin, Amad was asked about Moorhouse. His response was honest and direct:
“I think yeah, it’s up to him to do well, work hard, be humble,” Amad said. “He knows how the club is. If you want to be the maximum level you have to work hard. A club like United you demand a lot. I wish him all the best.”
Amad added a final thought on Moorhouse’s ability:
“If he wants to reach the maximum level, he has to work hard because a club like United, you demand a lot. So I wish him all the best, but yeah, he has a good potential.”
Those words echo what under-21s coach Adam Lawrence has been telling Moorhouse. Lawrence, who helped develop Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Willy Kambwala, recently laid out the challenge:
“It’s the club’s part to create the pathway. It’s the player’s job to force the pathway and make that final part. That’s where Jack sits at the moment.”
Lawrence also urged Moorhouse to use the remaining Premier League 2 games to prove himself:
“What we’re looking for him to do between now and the end of the season, in those U21s games, like against Madrid, U21s play-offs, is show he can perform at the elite level and make the difference. We feel he can,” Lawrence added.
Who is Jack Moorhouse?
Moorhouse was born in Manchester on 29 November 2005, making him 20 years old. He is a central midfielder who has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level. He made his debut for United’s U18 side when he was just 15 and has been a regular for the U21’s since stepping up last summer.
His progress caught the attention of former head coach Ruben Amorim during an academy game against Southampton in December 2024. Since then, he has been included in many first-team training sessions under both Amorim and Carrick.
Moorhouse was named on the bench against Tottenham and Arsenal last season, and also for the 1-0 win over Everton in February 2025, though he has yet to make his competitive senior debut. A loan spell at Leyton Orient this season brought 20 appearances and one assist before the recall.
With Casemiro set to leave this summer and Manuel Ugarte potentially following him out, there could be room for an academy midfielder to step up. Amad’s advice is clear that the talent is there, but the hard work has only just begun.
