- Myles Lewis-Skelly remains a Manchester United target
- Arsenal ready to listen to offers
- Red Devils not alone in chase
Manchester United have reportedly been handed a boost in their chase to sign Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly. The Gunners are reportedly open to offers this summer.
The Red Devils are looking to sign a left-back at the end of the season and were linked with the Hale End academy product earlier this month. The English youngster has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta and is open to an exit.
According to a BBC Sport report, the Gunners are willing to consider offers for the defender. However, Manchester United are not the only side chasing him, and a host of clubs from the top half of the Premier League are keeping tabs.
Lewis-Skelly Becomes Real Possibility
Arteta has played Riccardo Calafiori as his main left-back this season, with Piero Hincapié, who is expected to complete a permanent move to the Emirates in the summer, as the backup.
Lewis-Skelly signed a long-term deal with Arsenal last summer, but is considering his options after seeing his minutes limited this season. The English publication have reported that the Gunners want at least £100 million from the sale of the 19-year-old and Ethan Nwaneri, who has been loaned out to Marseille for the second half of the season.
While he has been predominantly used at left-back, he is also capable of playing in midfield. His versatility could be hugely beneficial if he were to arrive at Old Trafford this summer.
Arsenal Icon Backed Lewis-Skelly to Man Utd
Earlier this month, Arsenal legend Alan Smith predicted that the Gunners would be selling Myles Lewis-Skelly in the summer. He claimed that the pure profit was going to be the key motive after the Englishman fell down the pecking order and told Metro:
“I think Arsenal would sell him now, I mean, they could make a good profit given that he’s an academy player. Two players ahead of him at Arsenal are Calafiori and Hincapie, who are better defenders. A bit like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Lewis-Skelly is not such a good defender. So, United buying him, that’ll be interesting. I mean, look, who’s going to be the manager at United? Maybe he’s going to have a say in that.
He believes that the teenager would be a better midfielder than a left-back at Manchester United and added:
“But Lewis-Skelly, that’s his best role, coming into that midfield. Luke Shaw has been really steady for United at left-back. He’s had a good season, ever-present. So, it’ll be interesting to see whether Manchester United go for him. I think Arsenal would sell him to United, in all fairness.”
United are looking to sign midfielders and a left-back this summer, and Lewis-Skelly is a versatile option who can chip in at both positions. He has appeared 28 times across competitions, posting four assists.
