- Manchester United have ‘renewed’ interest in Morgan Rogers
- English attacker ‘open’ to Aston Villa exit
- INEOS need to be wary
Manchester United are reportedly in a three-horse race to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers. The English attacking midfielder is open to leaving Villa Park.
Rogers has been one of the Premier League’s best attacking talents this season. He’s been a key man for Unai Emery, posting eight goals and five assists in 31 league games.
The 23-year-old is even pushing for a starting role with England at the World Cup and seems keen to move to a club challenging for major trophies. He has five years left on his contract, but his future is now uncertain.
Man United Risk Lengthy Rogers Saga
A report from The Times claims that United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all renewed their interest in Rogers. Villa want at least £80m for the versatile Englishman who has been with the Villans since early 2024.
The Reds are keen to bolster their midfield ahead of Casemiro’s departure, and it’s suggested that Rogers’ versatility could be beneficial. A new left winger is also wanted, and that is his preferred position.
The issue United have is the likelihood of an auction ensuing that leads to a club paying over the odds. Time and time again, an exciting English talent gets put in the shop window and makes a move for an extortionate fee, for example, Jack Grealish’s £100m to Manchester City.
While a new left winger is obviously on the agenda, it isn’t the priority. At least two new central midfielders should be the focus for INEOS before thinking about spending big on a player like Rogers.
A Bruno Fernandes Heir?
A potential move for the Villa playmaker should depend on the business conducted beforehand. The club’s transfer budget has to be factored in, and there’s no indication of how much the decision-makers will be willing to spend.
Rogers ideally could be Bruno Fernandes’ long-term replacement, but United’s captain shouldn’t be going anywhere this summer. The Portuguese ace has been sensational this season, and he must be the lead man for whoever is in charge come next season.
At 31, Fernandes will eventually bid farewell to Old Trafford, but he remains the most important player in his squad. Having his heir in Rogers could be beneficial, but he should arrive only after other areas of the squad are addressed.
