- Manchester United eyeing young Ecuadorian striker
- Juan Riquelme Angulo has earned Erling Haaland comparisons
- Expected to be on the move this summer
Manchester United have long picked up talent around the world and nurtured them into future stars. The latest name on their list is a towering teenager from Ecuador.
Standing at 1.93 metres tall, United’s latest target has physical presence that is impossible to ignore. But what makes him genuinely exciting is his all-around ability up front. He combines agility, mobility, and a natural instinct for goal-scoring to stand out among his peers.
Juan Riquelme Angulo, an 18-year-old striker from Independiente del Valle, has emerged as a serious target for the Red Devils. Riquelme, likened to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, shares the Norwegian’s rare blend of size, speed and technicality, a combination that has scouts across Europe taking notice.
Manchester United eyeing Angulo
Interest in signing Angulo is reported by Ben Jacobs, who has told The United Stand that the Reds are eyeing the Ecuadorian striker. United are said to ‘really like’ Angulo and are keeping an eye on his situation ahead of this summer, along with a host of other European sides.
This is because Angulo is set to depart his club, Independiente del Valle, this summer, and so interested parties are lining up. Jacobs insisted that, unlike other Ecuadorian talents who had to wait, Angulo is ready to make the leap to Europe.
Angulo has made five senior appearances across competitions this season, posting one goal. He has earned six caps for Ecuador’s U17’s, scoring one goal.
Familiar Hunting Ground
United are no strangers to Independiente del Valle’s academy. The Ecuadorian club, nicknamed El Matagigantes (The Giant-Killers), has exported Moises Caicedo to Chelsea, a player United came agonisingly close to signing, as well as Kendry Paez, Piero Hincapie and William Pacho.
Angulo, known as ‘the Ecuadorian Haaland’, is the latest offering, standing at 6’3 “, the striker boasts a potent pairing of speed and strength that lends itself perfectly to the Premier League.
Ecuadorian journalist Gabriel Solorzano has added to the report that United are following the teenage striker, highlighting Angulo as being ‘one hell of a player’.
Barcelona are also lurking, but United have been successful with a recent track record of landing Diego Leon from Paraguay and Cristian Orozco from Colombia. INEOS appears determined to win the race for South America’s finest “Ecuadorian Haaland’. Angulo, who has already played senior football and scored for Independiente this season, could be the next name added to that list.
