Manchester United Want to Beat Arsenal and Man City to Championship Starlet
  • Manchester United eye up Championship star
  • Leicester could fall to League One
  • Jeremy Monga is pulling in lots of interest

Manchester United have turned their attention to Leicester City wonderkid Jeremy Monga, with half of the Premier League now reportedly tracking the 16-year-old.

Monga made his professional debut on 7 April at just 15 years and 271 days old, coming on as a substitute in the 74th minute of a 3–0 defeat to Newcastle United.

Although he has yet to face United, former United caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy named him in the matchday squad for the FA Cup fourth-round tie between the sides on 7 February 2025, when he was just 15 years and 212 days old.

On 13 August 2025, Monga became Leicester’s youngest-ever starter, playing 60 minutes in a 2–2 draw against Huddersfield Town in the EFL Cup.

A mere three days later, he scored his first senior goal in a 2–1 defeat to Preston North End, becoming the youngest goalscorer in EFL Championship history at just 16 years and 37 days old.

Lengthy Que For Man Utd Target Monga

Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk claims that the race for Monga is “intensifying” and “more than half of the Premier League are preparing moves. That includes United, Arsenal and City who are often scouring the market for the latest exciting youth prospect.

Bailey added:

“Manchester United, Arsenal and Man City are all primed to make formal approaches for the youngster, who cannot sign a professional contract with Leicester until he turns 17 in July.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albon and Brentford are also said to be interested. There are also European giants eyeing the Leicester talent, with Real Madrid, Juventus, and Borussia Dortmund keeping tabs.

The reason so many clubs are monitoring Monga stems from Leicester City’s current situation. Ten years ago, when Monga was just six, the Foxes sat top of the Premier League and marched towards one of the most unprecedented title wins in English football history.

Now, they sit second-bottom of the EFL Championship. Only Sheffield Wednesday are below them, and the threat of back-to-back relegations is growing stronger by the week.

That decline puts Monga’s future firmly under the microscope, and a move away now looks increasingly likely. His market value sits just under £9 million, but that figure could shift depending on whether Leicester avoid the drop.

Could we see him at United?

It is truly impossible to say where Monga will be heading in the summer. Unable to sign a professional contract until 10 July, Monga could be a fantastic pick-up for United.

But with most of the summer transfer funds allocated to improving the midfield and other problem areas of the pitch, even £10-£20 million for a pretty much unproven player could be seen as too high a risk for the United board to take.

Monga isn’t a priority, but there’d be no issue seeing him arrive to bolster the youth ranks at Carrington. INEOS are building for the future as well as the present.
