- Bruno Fernandes on his Manchester United career
- Patrick Dorgu stepping up recovery
- Clash with Brentford
Manchester United aren’t in action this weekend but they will be keeping an eye on their top five rivals. Michael Carrick’s men are just two wins away from a return to UEFA Champions League football.
The Reds next take to their field on Monday night when they host high-flying Brentford. Bruno Fernandes will be eager to continue his unbelievable form this season which has him closing in on a remarkable record.
Fernandes opened up on his decision to stay at United during a compelling interview with Wayne Rooney. The Portuguese playmaker will soon be joined back in the team by Patrick Dorgu who has been out since January.
‘I Didn’t Want to Leave’ – Fernandes
For any United fan wanting to hear just why Fernandes is entering legendary status, just go watch his interview with Rooney. The Red Devils skipper spoke so well about his decision to remain at Old Trafford and made clear his ambitions.
Fernandes said he opted to stay because he didn’t want to leave while the club were struggling. But he also added:
“I want to win the Premier League. I want to win the Champions League. I never hide from that.”
Fernandes has been at United since early 2020 and been the talisman at the Theatre of Dreams. The 31-year-old has bagged eight goals and 19 assists in 32 games this season.
Dorgu Return
Carrick has confirmed that Dorgu is expected to be back in team training in the week or so which is great news. The Danish winger was one of the standout performers at the start of the Englishman’s second spell with the Reds.
But Dorgu might not be back in time for next Sunday’s encounter with Liverpool. It’s more likely that he’s available for the trip to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland on May 9th.
The 21-year-old has registered three goals and as many assists in 24 games this season. He’ll offer Carrick an option on the left wing as well as at left-back.
United vs Brentford
Carrick is preparing his side for Monday’s encounter with Brentford who will be tricky customers. The Bees beat United 3-1 at the Gtech back in September and have been this season’s surprise package.
Fortunately, the Reds will have Harry Maguire back after he served an extended suspension and missed the 1-0 win over Chelsea. It looks likely he’ll start alongside Ayden Heaven in central defence.
That’s because Carrick couldn’t confirm whether Leny Yoro would return for that game. The French youngster sat out the trip to Stamford Bridge but is expected back soon.
