- Manchester United monitor Endrick
- Old Trafford side enquired about teenager in summer
- Rivals Arsenal also interested in Brazilian
Manchester United‘s last major gamble on a generational teenager came in 2015 with Anthony Martial.
While his stint had flashes of brilliance, it ultimately ended in disappointment after failing to justify the weight of becoming the world’s most expensive teenager.
In contrast, Real Madrid’s 2022 acquisition of Endrick from Palmeiras serves as the blueprint for elite scouting. While the deal didn’t shatter any world records, it set a historic benchmark for South American U-18 transfers.
As United reportedly turns its sights toward the Brazilian, the club must decide if they are ready to make a move for a “generational” talent once more.
Manchester United Interested in Endrick
The Daily Briefing has reported on interest for Endrick by Manchester United from earlier in the season. While the Brazilian was available for loan in January, United were deterred by the lack of a “buy option” in the proposal.
Journalist Mark Brus suggests that United’s future pursuit of the forward will “hinge on who becomes the next manager at Old Trafford.”
Brus also notes that Arsenal are monitoring the Real Madrid star, amid a “growing sense” that he could become available this summer. However, sources close to the player indicate that returning to the Bernabéu remains his primary goal.
After struggling for minutes in Madrid last season, Endrick joined Ligue 1 side Lyon in January. He has thrived under manager Paulo Fonseca, recording 14 goal contributions in 21 appearances. Notably, when Fonseca challenged him to elevate his game during a brief mini-rut, the teenager responded magnificently.
This resurgence in 2026 earned him a recall to the Brazilian national team under Carlo Ancelotti. He recently provided two assists in a 3-1 victory over Croatia on April 1.
A Move to England Could Be Best
Since his time at Palmeiras, Endrick had been the next ‘fenomeno’ from Brazil that Real Madrid were looking at since they lost out to Neymar Jr. Yet, the expectation has never fully met the reality.
Endrick’s talent is still there to see, but it may well not be at Madrid. His situation draws parallels to Martin Odegaard, who revitalised his career and matured in England. A similar move may now be the best route for the Brazilian.
Whilst the player will prioritise a return to Madrid, the pathway to development still seems complicated. Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior will be ahead in the pecking order, but Madrid officials’ focus will be on bolstering the midfield this summer instead.
Manchester United’s interest appears to have faded for now, but football moves at a rapid pace. There is little benefit for the Red Devils in developing a loanee without an option to buy. The club does not need to ‘sell’ the project under INEOS to prospective stars, especially with the impending return of Champions League football. Currently, Arsenal seem to have a more defined interest, particularly as the futures of wingers Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard remain uncertain.
