Manchester United are reportedly ramping up their pursuit of a new forward and the Red Devils continue monitoring the situation of Karim Adeyemi at Borussia Dortmund.

Still just 24 years old, Adeyemi was once tipped as the next breakout striker on the European market, yet his four seasons in the Bundesliga have not unfolded as expected. Having signed for Dortmund in May 2022, he arrived for an initial £26 million fee, one that the German side are now looking to turn into profit.

Adeyemi first made his name in the Austrian Bundesliga with RB Salzburg, where he burst onto the scene at just 20, scoring 19 goals in 23 games and driving the club to a ninth consecutive league title.

However, that level has not translated in Germany. Across 144 appearances over four seasons, Adeyemi has found the net just 35 times, with his most productive campaign yielding only 12 goals.

Dortmund are now actively seeking to move him on, with United among several clubs keeping a close watch on developments.

Adeyemi to United?

According to SportsBoom, Adeyemi has fallen out with Dortmund manager Niko Kovač over ongoing inconsistency and disciplinary issues. It is a relationship that has deteriorated rapidly.

Just six months prior, Kovac called the forward “world-class.” After Adeymi’s brace helped beat Villareal 4-0 in the Champions League. As a result, he no longer features in the Croatian manager’s long-term plans, and Dortmund are pushing for a sale this summer.

Initially valued at over £60 million, the German side appears willing to lower their demands, with offers in the region of £50 million now under consideration.

Dortmund still believe in the player’s underlying potential, but they now view a sale as essential, citing declining professional standards and stalled contract negotiations.

Manchester United, in turn, see this as an opportunity to step in, although with Arsenal also circling, the situation could quickly escalate into a bidding war—potentially driving the price back towards that £60 million mark.

A versatile forward, Adeyemi can operate across the front line, whether on either flank or through the middle, making him a rare profile in the modern game.

Both United and Arsenal will be alert to that flexibility, with the 24-year-old capable of injecting pace and dynamism into their attacking structures.

Manchester United Must Snub Adeyemi

Despite his intriguing profile, Manchester United should be steering well clear.

As already outlined, Dortmund’s willingness to sell stems not only from performance issues, but also from concerns around inconsistency and discipline.

United, having already navigated their fair share of dressing room complications over the past decade, cannot afford to revisit that territory. It only takes one disruptive presence to unsettle the balance.

One individual can fracture cohesion, create divisions, and ultimately derail collective progress.

When you then factor in a £50–£60 million price tag, Adeyemi becomes a luxury United simply cannot justify—particularly in a window where midfield reinforcements will demand the bulk of investment.
