- Manchester United vs Brentford (April 27th)
- Hugely positive team news
- Can Michael Carrick oversee a victory?
Manchester United host Brentford at Old Trafford tonight (April 27th) with a return to UEFA Champions League football looking increasingly likely. The Reds need just two wins from their remaining five games.
Michael Carrick’s men know all about the threat the visitors pose, having been beaten 3-1 in the reverse fixture. An Igor Thiago double and a late Mathias Jensen strike did the damage, with United only responding through a Benjamin Sesko goal.
Tonight, it is crucial for Carrick’s Reds to keep the winning momentum going after beating Chelsea 1-0 last weekend. There is great news regarding a possible returnee to the squad for the game.

Team News
United appear to have Patrick Dorgu available for tonight’s game after recovering from a hamstring injury. The Danish winger has been out of action since January but could return to the squad for tonight’s game.
Harry Maguire will definitely return for the game after serving a two-match ban. This is a massive boost for Carrick, who turned to Noussair Mazraoui and Ayden Heaven in central defence for a 1-0 victory over Chelsea last weekend.
Carrick will be without Lisandro Martinez, who is serving a three-match suspension after his sending off in a 2-1 loss to Leeds United. Leny Yoro could make the squad after missing the Chelsea win, although it’s not confirmed whether he’s fully fit.
Matthijs de Ligt is still rehabilitating a back problem that has kept him sidelined since December. The Dutch defender has been back on the grass at Carrington, which is good news.
Expected XI
With Maguire back available, it’s likely the English centre-back partners with Heaven in defence. Carrick will undoubtedly continue with Senne Lammens between the sticks.
Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw will be at full-back, having played in their preferred positions against Chelsea. Kobbie Mainoo returned for that game and put in an excellent performance alongside Casemiro in midfield.
Bruno Fernandes is just two assists away from matching Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry’s record of 20 assists in a single Premier League campaign. The Portuguese playmaker linked up with Matheus Cunha for the winner at Stamford Bridge.
Cunha should start on the left despite a rumour online about him potentially being absent. Benjamin Sesko will be eager to get on the scoresheet and will likely lead the line with Bryan Mbeumo facing his former side on the right.
Manchester United likely lineup: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Heaven, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro, Fernandes; Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha
Prediction
United are closing in on a return to Champions League football, and a win tonight would make it all but certain. But Brentford are a tricky side and can make life difficult for the Premier League’s best teams.
A Sesko goal should open the scoring before Thiago equalises in a scrappy second half. A late Fernandes winner eventually bags all three points.
Prediction: Manchester United 2-1 Brentford
