- Manchester United eye Ferdi Kadioglu
- Brighton star a desired Luke Shaw replacement
- A £40m fee
Manchester United are reportedly showing interest in Brighton & Hove Albion left-back Ferdi Kadioglu. The Reds view him as a long-term Luke Shaw replacement, given the Englishman is now 30 and not getting any younger.
Kadioglu has impressed ever since arriving in the Premier League with the Seagulls. He’s appeared 33 times in the league this season, posting one goal.
Shaw has enjoyed one of his best seasons at United, putting constant injury struggles behind him. But he will have a year left on his contract this summer.
Man United Eye Kadioglu
A report from Turkish outlet Sporx claims that United see Kadioglu as a long-term Shaw heir. But Brighton won’t part with the player easily and are expected to demand around £40m.
Kadioglu was previously on the club’s radar before he headed to the Amex from Fenerbahce for £25m in the summer of 2024. He is an attack-minded full-back who often ventures forward to help out in attack.
Whether the Reds will prioritise the Turkish international remains to be seen. Midfield is the main focus and his Brighton teammate Carlos Baleba is of interest.
Kadioglu has two years left on his contract with the Seagulls, which could help aid a potential deal. The Reds will know how tough negotiations with the Premier League club are given how they were quickly warned off Baleba last summer.
Luke Shaw Needs Replacing
Shaw might be back ot his best and staying injury-free this season, but he is entering his thirties. Even if he were to continue as United’s starting left-back, signing Kadioglu gives him vital competition.
Patrick Dorgu has returned from a hamstring injury and he can play at left-back but the Dane is better further forward on either wing. During his absence, it was always a concern that Shaw might pick up an injury, thereby forcing Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui to play as a makeshift left-back.
Fabian Hurzeler already explained why he fits the bill for the Reds after the Turk joined Brighton. He told club media:
“I’m very excited because we are getting an excellent player and a great character. He has great ability, is a strong runner and very good at passing.”
For £40m, Kadioglu would be a great addition and help address such an issue ahead of a return to the Champions League. He’s proven himself in the Premier League and offers versatility, able to also play at right-back.
