Manchester United Could Sign ‘Generational’ Sesko Backup

  • Manchester United hone in on Bournemouth star
  • Eli Junior Kroupi’s fantastic year
  • How much will he cost Manchester United?

Manchester United are honing in on their next summer shortlist, with Eli Junior Kroupi emerging as a target for the Red Devils.

Signed by Bournemouth in a highly controversial deal—given their ownership group, Black Knight Football Club, also controls his former side Lorient—the French forward arrived for just £10 million and has since developed into one of the Premier League’s more intriguing young attackers in his debut season.

Across 31 appearances in all competitions, he has scored 11 goals, a return that initially reads as modest until you consider the context. At just 19, the Cherries have managed his minutes carefully.

Kroupi has played only 1,541 minutes across those outings, equating to a goal every 140 minutes—an efficiency that reframes his output entirely. United, now looking to sharpen their attacking options, have taken notice.

Keen on Kroupi

An update from Ben Jacobs on Kroupi reveals that United do indeed admire the young French striker. He told The United Stand:

“Kroupi Junior is one to watch this summer. Everything is still at a very early stage, and a key factor, potentially influenced by whether Bournemouth secure European football is whether they can do what they did with Antoine Semenyo and persuade him to stay for another year.”

He added:

“That would likely come on improved terms, possibly including some form of release clause. I doubt it would allow for a mid-season exit, though. For me it would be a surprise if Bournemouth inserted a mid-season release clause. It’s not impossible, because the precedent is there, but any flexibility would more likely point towards summer 2027.

Jacobs explained that United are just one of many clubs that appreciate Kroupi, and fans shouldn’t get too excited. He described it as an “open situation”, but the door isn’t shut over a potential summer exit.

Jacobs also noted that Kroupi is not the only Bournemouth player on Manchester United’s radar this summer, with Alex Scott and Tyler Adams also under consideration. The Reds are prioritising midfield reinforcements, placing both Scott and Adams firmly in the frame.

With Casemiro set to depart on 30 June, and Manuel Ugarte potentially following, United are heading towards a revolving-door window, requiring at least two midfield additions to fill the void.

Kroupi Talk is Exciting

At 19, with his ceiling still largely untapped, Kroupi would command a significant fee—likely in the region of £60–£80 million. That presents a complication.

United will direct the bulk of their summer resources towards midfield, where structural gaps demand urgent attention. But it’s hard to ignore the growth of Kroupi, described by teammate Marcus Tavernier as ‘generational‘.

Committing major funds to another forward—particularly after last summer’s £200 million outlay on Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo—becomes difficult to justify.

Instead, United may defer a move for Kroupi rather than abandon it entirely.

With defensive reinforcements also expected to feature in next summer’s planning, the club hierarchy may view a move for the then 20-year-old as a more viable option further down the line, when priorities shift.
