- Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United future still unknown
- Aston Villa willing to sign him
- Barcelona yet to agree on permanent deal
Marcus Rashford could be handed a Premier League return by Aston Villa if the Manchester United star doesn’t join Barcelona permanently. The English forward has spent the season on loan at Camp Nou.
The 28-year-old’s future is uncertain despite impressing at Barca, where he’s rediscovered form after a difficult Old Trafford exit. He fell out with former head coach Ruben Amorim and was sent on loan to Villa for the second half of last season.
The Villans’ failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League saw Rashford decide not to join the club permanently. Instead, he was offered the chance to experience Spanish football and he’s ultimately fared well.
Villa in For Rashford
Rashford has bagged 13 goals and as many assists in 45 games across competitions. He has starred alongside Lamine Yamal and Pedri but the Catalans are unsure whether to trigger his buy option.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, the United loanee feels he’s done enough to secure a permanent move or another loan. But the La Liga giants’ financial situation has cast doubts over the club paying his £26m buy option.
Villa have taken notice and are “keeping a close eye on the situation.” It’s said that Unai Emery “likes” Rashford and would be willing to pay a transfer fee.
Rashford will have two years left on his contract at Old Trafford this summer but it doesn’t seem likely that he will play for the club again. But that doesn’t mean he can’t return to the Premier League with Villa where he made a good impression during his brief loan spell.
Stay in Spain
It would be extremely weird to see United face Rashford in the English top-flight. Of course, coming up against former players in European competition is a normal occurrence.
There’s just something wrong about the idea of a boyhood Red Devil who rose through the youth academy, playing his football for another English club. Much can be said about his attitude, but there’s no denying he enjoyed many magical moments at the Theatre of Dreams.
The best outcome is for Rashford to join Barca permanently and for the fee agreed when the two clubs shook on a loan last summer. Many would even be delighted to have him back, although it does feel like his United career is finished.
