- Manchester United win 3-2 vs Liverpool
- Amad came on in second half
- Ivorian winger gave ball away for Liverpool’s first goal
Manchester United fans have voiced their concerns about Amad Diallo despite the club’s 3-2 win against Liverpool on Sunday. The Red Devils’ victory confirmed their return to the Champions League next season.
It should have been much more emphatic on the basis of a dominant first-half display. United took a two-nil lead into half-time courtesy of goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
Amad came on for Sesko at half-time due to the Slovenian striker struggling with a knock. The Ivorian gave the ball away, allowing Dominik Szoboszlai to pounce, venture forward and find the net.
The 23-year-old wasn’t the only one at fault for allowing the visitors back into the game. Senne Lammens carelessly gave the ball away and Cody Gakpo capitalised to make it 2-2.
Fortunately, Kobbie Mainoo came to the rescue, scoring the winner with an excellent strike. But for Amad, it was another outing that did him no favours when it comes to his desired game time.

We Need to Talk About Amad
Carrick said ahead of the game that he felt Amad had “played well” and “given the team an awful lot”. While that seemed admirable man management, it didn’t pain the full picture.
Since returning from the African Cup of Nations, the winger just hasn’t been at his best. He started the season strongly under Ruben Amorim, flourishing as a right wing-back.
The change in coach can’t be blamed for Amad’s drop in form, but it should be factored in. The former Atalanta star feels like a confidence player, and maybe the challenge of trying to displace Bryan Mbeumo is dampening his spirits.
Fans Give Worrying Amad Verdict
United fans will be celebrating a return to the Champions League but the only worry is Amad. That’s how many feel when reacting to his display on social media.
One fan highlighted this: “Amad really has struggled lately. Doesn’t mean he has to be sold or anything but it’s a concern and having someone as coverage available (maybe a LW/RW type or RW/ST or AM / RW) isn’t a bad thing to keep in mind especially if Lacey isn’t going to be used more or considered on the same tier as Amad.”
Another wrote: “Yeah, Amad has not been the same player since returning from AFCON.”
One said: “Amad has been so disappointing in what was suppose to be his breakout out year smh.”
Another added: “If Amad doesn’t get better soon we need to have some uncomfortable conversations.”
Amad has made 30 appearances across competitions this season, posting two goals and three assists. He has been at United since early 2021.
