  • Manchester United’s Casemiro wins Player of the Month
  • Enjoyed brilliant April
  • Just four games left for the Brazilian midfielder

Manchester United’s departing midfielder Casemiro is leaving the club in style, picking up the April Player of the Month award. The Brazilian has performed to an exemplary standard since announcing his departure in late January.

Casemiro is expected to leave once his contract runs out on 30 June. He took 44% of the final vote for the club’s Player of the Month, narrowly ahead of Bruno Fernandes on 38%, and Kobbie Mainoo on 19%.

There have been whispers of a potential one-year extension, but Michael Carrick has already shut down those ideas, saying, “It’s pretty clear – from both sides it’s pretty clear the decision.”

Regardless, Casemiro has proven vital throughout April, scoring twice as United beat Chelsea and Brentford, strengthening their position ahead of qualifying for the 2026/27 edition of the Champions League.

“One more year”

“One more year, one more year, Casemiro.” were the chants bellowing around Old Trafford after Casemiro’s opening goal against Brentford in the 11th minute.

It marked the Brazilian’s ninth goal of the season, as he stands on the verge of reaching double figures for the first time in a single campaign for United.

Casemiro’s performance throughout the match, however, drew genuine plaudits. In the 93rd minute, he closed down Reiss Nelson, forcing the winger to put the ball out for a goal kick.

As he tumbled down the embankment on the side of Old Trafford, he pushed himself up and slapped the hand of a young fan, as the stands across the stadium roared to life, feeding off the connection between player and supporter.

With United narrowly holding onto a 2-1 win, that moment sparked the crowd into life, as the side held on for their second consecutive victory.

It also highlighted a moment that shows just how difficult replacing the Brazilian will be. Throughout the season, his off-the-ball presence has remained vital for United.

It is something that we have seen Mainoo begin to improve since Carrick took charge, but he is not yet at the level required to replace Casemiro.

Man Utd face off with Liverpool

Heading into the rivalry clash between United and Liverpool, Casemiro could not be in better form. If United secure at least a draw, they will qualify for the Champions League.

But this match carries more than just qualification for Europe’s premier cup competition. Both sides will likely secure a place in the competition, but a win for either team brings not only bragging rights but also the strong likelihood of finishing above the other.

If United claim victory, they will sit six points clear of Liverpool. If Liverpool win, they will draw level on points but move ahead on goal difference—United currently on 14, Liverpool on 13.

Casemiro will be hoping to get on the scoresheet, and United fans across the globe will be hoping for an assist from Bruno Fernandes, as he closes in on the record of 20 Premier League assists, with the Portuguese skipper currently sitting on 19.
