Marcus Rashford reacts to Man Utd qualifying for Champions League
  • Manchester United are back in the Champions League
  • Marcus Rashford is on loan at Barcelona
  • Academy graduate could return this summer

It admittedly should not even be in question whether Marcus Rashford still has a deep affection for Manchester United. The Barcelona loanee spent 20 years at the club, 10 of which he spent as a first-team player, and scored 138 goals in 426 appearances.

Yet, the unfortunate manner in which Rashford left Old Trafford etched a rift in his relationship with many supporters. The 28-year-old’s disciplinary problems off the pitch and brutal exile under Ruben Amorim’s rule, due to a refusal to buy into the Portuguese coach’s vision, saw his dream United career turn sour.

However, United confirmed a Champions League return after two years away from Europe’s elite competition by beating Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday. And Rashford has issued a reminder that his boyhood club is still very much in his thoughts, almost two years since he made his final appearance.

Marcus Rashford reacts

On Tuesday, United shared a post on X promoting the club’s 2026/27 membership, unsurprisingly using their newfound Champions League status as a selling point. Rashford later quoted the post, writing:

“Congratulations.”

The former United No. 10’s reaction has gone down well on the social media platform, accumulating over two million views and 50,000 likes within the first eight hours.

If Barcelona trigger their £26million buy option this summer, or seal another loan deal, Rashford could face his beloved Red Devils in next season’s Champions League.

However, the La Liga champions elect currently appear unlikely to do so, and United have no interest in re-negotiating the fee or accepting another loan spell.

Is a Man Utd return possible?

With that said, is it out of the realm of possibility that Rashford returns to Old Trafford this summer… and stays? Not at all.

That certainly will not be in the plans for now, and United will be confident that if Barcelona do not pay up, another suitor will.

But with the M16 giants back in the Champions League, most players currently under contract are in for a 25 per cent increase in their salary, Rashford included.

Whether another club could afford the England international’s £300,000-a-week wages, or whether he would accept a pay cut to seal a move, remains to be seen.
