- Manchester United draw 0-0 vs Sunderland
- Senne Lammens reacts to stalemate
- Insists the season isn’t finished
Senne Lammens has urged Manchester United to remain focused on finishing third after a dissapointing 0-0 draw against Sunderland. A four-game winning streak ended in poor fashion at the Stadium of Light.
United came into the game full of confidence after a 3-2 win over Liverpool last Sunday. Michael Carrick delivered UEFA Champions League qualification with that victory.
Sunderland have been this season’s surprise package and a difficult game had been expected. While the visitors knew how tough the Black Cats would be, they put in a woeful showing collectively.

Lammens on Man Utd’s Draw vs Sunderland
The hosts bossed most of the game and were unfortunate not to come away with a victory. Brian Brobbey hit the post while Lammens pulled off four saves to keep Regis Le Bris’ men at bay.
The Belgian shot-stopper’s display proved vital in securing a point and at least remaining unbeaten since a 2-1 loss to Leeds United on April 13th. He gave his verdict on the game when speaking to Premier League Productions:
“We had to work very hard to keep the clean sheet away at Sunderland, given the way they have been playing this season.”
He added:
“We always knew it was going to be a difficult one. We weren’t at our best on the ball quality-wise, but the most important things were probably not conceding and working together as a team defensively. We can take some good points away from that.”
Lammens looked at the big picture and United’s hopes of finishing third. He said:
“We can’t stop here. I know the Champions League was our main goal, but we want to finish with as many points as possible. We want to finish with a good feeling to build on for next season, so we know how important these final games are for that.”
He added:
“The manager has got the point across to us that this season is not finished. We have got Champions League, but we also want to finish third. We don’t want to finish below third, we want to keep those other teams away from us. I hope – and I think – our team thinks the same way as me.”
Lammens is only one of a number of United players who can hold their heads up after that game. Carrick opted to make five changes to the team that beat Liverpool, and most of them failed to capitalise on their opportunities.
