- Michael Carrick confirms Benjamin Sesko misses game
- Slovenian striker nursing shin injury
Manchester United are set to be without Benjamin Sesko for their home clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday (May 17th). Michael Carrick has confirmed the Slovenian won’t return for the game.
Sesko is recovering from a shin injury that worsened in United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool. He sat out the 0-0 draw against Sunderland last Saturday.
The Red Devils lacked his firepower in that game and won’t be able to call upon him this weekend. It’s a blow for Carrick, who will want to ensure his side finishes the season as strongly as possible.

Carrick: Sesko still not 100%
Carrick spoke ahead of United’s clash with Forest and gave updates on Casemiro and Sesko. He told reporters:
“Case [Casemiro] is available. Ben [Sesko] is not as straightforward to Case, he’s still not 100% with the problem he had [shin].”
Sesko has been in superb form since Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in January. He has registered seven goals in 13 games. Joshua Zirkzee led the line against Sunderland but his dissapointing display casts doubt over him starting against Forest.
Other options include Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo moving from the wing into the centre-forward role. But Sesko’s absence highlights the need to sign a better backup striker this summer.
Good news
The good news is that Casemiro is back for the game against Forest after sitting out the stalemate at the Stadium of Light. The Brazilian midfielder is set to make his final outing at Old Trafford before he bids farewell in June.
Carrick spoke glowingly about the 34-year-old after confirming his status for the game:
“Case’s available. I can speak since I’ve been here and met him and worked with him, he’s been fantastic for us, for me personally, for us as a group what he’s given us. That certainty helps, knowing the situation, for him and for us, for him to get in a place where he can give absolutely everything know it’s going to come to an end.”
He added:
“Credit to him for the way he’s gone about that. It is easy to go the other way. He’s fully invested, fully supported by us as a staff in the performances he’s given. He’s had some ups and downs over the year, to finish so strongly and see that connection with the supporters is really good to see.“
Casemiro has been a mainstay in Carrick’s midfield this season and he will be a huge miss when he departs. United are in the process of finding a replacement and there has been a positive update over Carlos Baleba.
