- Mason Mount praises striker Benjamin Sesko
- Slovenian enjoyed resurgence under Michael Carrick
- Midfielder predicts number nine to become ‘one of the best’ strikers in the world
Benjamin Sesko’s debut season at Manchester United has been a tale of two halves. As the curtain begins to fall on the 2025/26 campaign, it is time for fans and players alike to reflect on the season that has gone.
It took Michael Carrick to come in as interim boss in January for Sesko to finally start proving his doubters wrong as United’s first-choice number nine.
Now, teammate Mason Mount has shared an inside look at the striker’s development that will give fans an insight into the hard work undertaken by the Slovenian.

Mount Heaps Praise on Teammate
It hasn’t always been easy for Benjamin Sesko since his £74m move from RB Leipzig last summer. One man who knows that all too well is his teammate, Mount. He himself has struggled to properly make an impact at Old Trafford following his move from Chelsea three seasons ago.
However, since the turn of the year, Sesko has exploded into life in the Premier League. His 11 Premier League goals have included crucial strikes against Liverpool and Chelsea in recent weeks, which have helped secure Champions League football.
Initially, Bryan Mbuemo was preferred in the number nine position by Carrick. The 44-year-old opted to use Sesko as a ‘super sub’ with great effect, before eventually priming him into the starting role.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Mason Mount revealed his judgement on the striker, detailing first impressions to much more. He said: “It definitely takes a bit of time to settle in. But from day one, from my point of view, as soon as I saw him training, there’s definitely something there. What he’s like as a person, he’s very driven and very professional.”
Sesko has made headlines this season over his obsessive drive for self-development. Living close to Manchester Airport, he installed double-glazed windows to optimise his sleep and wears a wellness ring to track his sleeping quality. Additionally, he specifically bought a home in Cheshire with a home gym and recovery facilities.

Sesko is Number Nine Fans have Waited on
On the pitch, he has delivered too. Initially, he struggled with his confidence under Ruben Amorim and consequently only scored two goals under the Portuguese. Nine of his 11 league goals coming in the second half of the season tells its own story.
Mount continued: “Obviously, recently he’s scored a few goals and he will continue scoring goals and really push on. He could definitely be one of the best strikers in the world if he carries on going. He’s got all the attributes, he’s unbelievable in the air, hold-up play. I’m a big fan of Ben and I really like him as a person as well.”
United fans were starved of a competent striker last season, as Rasmus Hojlund failed to deliver shots on target at times, let alone goals for the club. Sesko’s frame is a much better fit for the Premier League, and it’s finally getting a chance to impose itself on the pitch.
If Sesko continues this trajectory into next season’s Champions League campaign, Mount’s prediction of him becoming “one of the best in the world” might actually become a reality.
