- Man Utd made Marcus Rashford decision
- Ruben Amorim didn’t force his exile
- Red Devils star’s future up in air
Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United career looks to be over, and many believe Ruben Amorim was the culprit. The former head coach banished Rashford from the first team in late 2024 after criticising his contributions in training.
Amorim made several damning remarks about Rashford, including that he would use 64-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital instead of him. The player first spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa.
Rashford was then sent on loan to Barcelona last summer, where he’s spent the season getting his career back on track. The Catalans have a £26m buy option they can trigger, but they are reluctant to do so amid signing Anthony Gordon for £69m.
Man Utd made Rashford call
Tyrone Marshall of the Manchester Evening News has delved into Rashford’s situation and made a huge claim over the Englishman’s exile. He says that the club made the decision to remove the 28-year-old from the first-team squad, and that trying to move him on wasn’t forced on them by Amorim.
This may come as a surprise to some fans who believed Amorim had put his foot down and insisted on Rashford leaving. The Reds’ transfer chiefs backed the Portuguese coach with three attacking signings last summer, including Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian took Rashford’s spot on the left wing and his number 10 shirt. He started the season as Amorim’s first-choice starting left winger and felt like a signing fronted by the club’s former manager.
Amorim is no longer in charge at Old Trafford following his sacking in January. Michael Carrick replaced him and has since been appointed head coach permanently.
Despite this, Rashford isn’t expected to continue at United even if Barca continues to refuse to pay the club’s asking price. He will likely be moved on whether that be to another European club or even a Premier League side.
End in sight
Rashford rose through the youth system at Old Trafford before debuting at the age of 18 in February 2016. He went on to make 426 appearances across competitions, scoring 138 goals and providing 79 assists.
During the latter stages of his United spell, many questioned his professionalism and attitude. A late-night bender in Belfast saw him fined during Erik ten Hag’s tenure back in January 2024.
Rashford shone at Camp Nou this season, posting 14 goals and as many assists in 49 games across competitions. This impressive form hasn’t changed the situation, and a summer sale is on the cards.
