Michael Carrick praises Radek Vitek after the Manchester United goalkeeper helped secure a clean sheet in the 5-0 win over Rosenborg.
The 22-year-old played more than 70 minutes as United recorded their first victory of pre-season.
Carrick said he was “really pleased” with Vitek’s performance in Trondheim. Dermot Mee replaced the Czech goalkeeper in the 72nd minute and completed the shutout.
“I thought we defended pretty well as a team,” Carrick told Manchester United’s official website. He also described clean sheets as “a beautiful thing”.
Shea Lacey and Joshua Zirkzee scored before half-time. Jacob Devaney, Harry Amass and Ethan Williams completed the scoring after the break.
Vitek faced limited pressure because United controlled most of the match. However, his calm handling and distribution helped Carrick’s side build attacks from the back.

Vitek returned to United following an impressive loan spell with Bristol City. He made 41 appearances, kept 12 clean sheets and collected several end-of-season awards at Ashton Gate.
His longer-term future remains uncertain. Vitek has already made clear that he wants regular first-team football and would consider either another loan or a permanent move.
United already have Senne Lammens ahead of him in the goalkeeping hierarchy. Karl Darlow has also arrived to add experience to Carrick’s squad.
