Kit Margetson joins Manchester United after the Red Devils agreed a compensation package with Swansea City. The 20-year-old goalkeeper will complete his move to Old Trafford subject to the relevant approval.
Margetson had reached the end of his Swansea contract, but the Championship club remained entitled to compensation after developing him through their academy.
The Wales Under-21 international had been with the Swans since the age of 15. He earned his first professional contract in 2023 before gaining valuable senior experience away from the Swansea.com Stadium.
Kit Margetson joins Manchester United after successful loan
Margetson spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan with Connah’s Quay Nomads in the Cymru Premier.
He made 34 appearances and kept ten clean sheets during his first full season in senior football. The goalkeeper helped Connah’s Quay qualify for European competition and also represented Wales Under-21s during the campaign.
United have not confirmed whether Margetson will initially join the Under-21 squad or leave on another loan. His experience in senior football should provide the club with several options when deciding the next stage of his development.
The signing continues United’s renewed effort to recruit leading young talent from other British academies.
ReadManUtd recently reported that United were also working on academy deals involving Liverpool and Manchester City players. Tynan Thompson has already arrived from Tottenham Hotspur as part of the same recruitment drive.
Kit Margetson joins Manchester United as a development signing rather than an immediate first-team option. However, his international recognition and productive loan spell suggest United have secured a goalkeeper with considerable potential.
