Man Utd player ratings vs AC Milan: Dorgu shines as Bruno struggles

Manchester United ended pre-season with a damaging 4-2 defeat against AC Milan, despite leading twice through Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu.

Michael Carrick’s side started brightly in Wrocław but were punished for defensive mistakes before collapsing during the second half. Samuel Chukwueze, Alphadjo Cissé, Gonçalo Ramos and Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored for Ruben Amorim’s Milan.

Here are our Manchester United player ratings from the final pre-season friendly.

Man Utd player ratings vs AC Milan

Senne Lammens – 5

Produced one excellent reaction save during the first half and another routine stop after United surrendered possession. He was given little protection for several Milan goals but was occasionally loose with the ball himself.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5

Spent much of the contest occupied defensively rather than providing United with an attacking outlet. Milan increasingly found space as the game opened up.

Harry Maguire – 6

Made the perfect start by powering Bruno Fernandes’ corner home inside two minutes. His afternoon became more difficult from there, including the messy collision with Andrey Santos before Chukwueze’s equaliser.

Ayden Heaven – 5

Had some promising moments carrying the ball forward but was part of a back line that became increasingly stretched. Milan created too many openings before his withdrawal.

Luke Shaw – 5

Often left Dorgu to provide the attacking width on the left and struggled when Milan overloaded United defensively.

Andrey Santos – 5

His energy was evident again, but this was a much less controlled performance than some of his earlier pre-season outings. The collision with Maguire summed up a chaotic defensive spell.

Youri Tielemans – 6

Probably United’s tidiest midfielder for periods of the game. Made one dangerous error in possession but also helped progress the ball before Milan took control.

Amad – 5

Never really found enough space to influence proceedings consistently. There were flashes of his usual sharp movement without enough end product.

Bruno Fernandes – 4

Delivered the corner for Maguire’s opener but endured a frustrating afternoon afterwards. His penalty was saved by Lorenzo Torriani, meaning Fernandes has now failed from the spot in consecutive pre-season games after his miss in the Leeds shootout.

Patrick Dorgu – 8

Comfortably United’s best performer.

Dorgu caused problems from the opening seconds, with his early effort leading to the corner from which Maguire scored. His pressing helped United win their penalty before he pounced on a loose Milan pass to score United’s second.

Quick, aggressive and direct throughout.

Matheus Cunha – 5

Dropped deeper to link play but struggled to impose himself on the contest. United needed more attacking threat through the middle before he was replaced.

Man Utd substitutes

Lisandro Martinez – 4

An important return to action, but Loftus-Cheek exposed his lack of sharpness when breaking away for Milan’s fourth.

Diogo Dalot – 4

Found himself caught between runners as Milan took control and was unable to stabilise United’s right side.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6

Showed some encouraging touches immediately after his introduction. A positive return even if United’s overall performance deteriorated around him.

Shea Lacey – 5

Wanted the ball and tried to make things happen from the right, but Milan largely contained the youngster.

Marcus Rashford – 4

A significant moment simply to see him back in a United shirt, but the performance itself was quiet. Showed flashes of neat footwork before wasting his best opening in behind.

Bryan Mbeumo – 5

Entered with United already losing control and struggled to get enough service through the middle.

United now have a week before their Premier League opener against Hull City.

Carrick will take encouragement from Dorgu and the return of several senior players, but conceding four goals in the final pre-season test leaves plenty to address before the points begin to matter.
