Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur returned from the international break with plenty to prove after a disastrous start to the season.
United arrived with just one win, while Tottenham came to Old Trafford without a win.
Both teams had half-chances in the first half but little to show for them. Tottenham had the better chances with chances for Dominic Solanke, Connor Gallagher and Kudus, but none could take advantage of them.
Manchester United came close in the first half to score after Bryan Mbeumo raced towards the goal on a counter-attack to find Amad. He had a difficult shot, and eventually the shot was too weak to cause any damage. The first-half display was met by boos from the Old Trafford crowd at half-time and during the first half as well.
The second half of drama
Solanke had another chance at the start of the second half but put it over the top, amid a wrestle with Lisandro Martinez in the six-yard box. It was United, however, who started the second half with promise.
Substitutions by Michael Carrick around the hour mark made the difference as United showed intent before Mbeumo got the goal off Cunha’s low cross. Luke Shaw was at the end of a scuffle with Bentancur, who was shown a red card for headbutting Shaw.
United failed to capitalize on their one-man advantage and seemed to sit on their 1-0 lead, but Solanke punished them with a header to level the game in injury time. The draw left United with just 6 points off their first six games. The result leaves United with their worst start in 40 years.
