Diogo Dalot has given an honest insight into what he sees as one of the hardest parts of being a Manchester United player.
For the Portuguese defender, the biggest test isn’t simply what happens on the pitch. He believes dealing with the expectations around the club, and keeping outside noise from affecting the players, can be just as difficult.
“I believe the biggest challenge of being a Manchester United player is managing expectations, especially because of the noise that comes from outside towards the inside, rather than the other way around,” Dalot said to DAZN Portugal.
Diogo Dalot knows there is always going to be attention on Manchester United. The players must make a real effort not to let that become part of their daily work.
Diogo Dalot explains why it can be difficult
“We always try to keep that noise away and separate from what we do every day.”
That can be particularly hard for players who are new to the club. Diogo Dalot pointed out that having little experience of life at United can make it tougher to understand how to deal with the attention that comes with wearing the shirt.
“But it can also be difficult, especially for players who don’t have much experience at this club, to know how to deal with this situation.”
Dalot’s comments are what expectations at Manchester United are. There is a lot of attention surrounding the club, and the players have to find a way to keep that from becoming a distraction.
For those who have been at United longer, that experience can help. For newer players, learning how to handle the noise may simply take time.
