Breaking: Man Utd begin formal progress for Michael Carrick replacement

Manchester United are reportedly looking at options beyond Michael Carrick after the club believes he is not the right option for United.

Former Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann is among the names linked with a possible move to Old Trafford if United

Indykaila, a famous insider account on X, reported that Manchester United have started the process of finding their next head coach. Nagelsmann’s representatives are said to be willing to hear what the club has planned before deciding whether the project would suit the German manager.

United have not announced any change in their managerial plans, so the report remains unconfirmed. Carrick is still in charge, but his results at the start of the new season have given the club plenty to think about.

Carrick’s good start has faded

Michael Carrick did enough during his interim spell last season to earn the job permanently. After taking over following Ruben Amorim’s departure in January, he won 11 of his 16 matches and guided United to third place in the Premier League, securing Champions League qualification.

That run convinced the club to hand him a two-year contract in May. The new campaign, though, has been a disappointing story so far. United have picked up just six points from their first six league games, their worst start since 1985/86.

Their latest setback came against Tottenham on Saturday. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead, and Rodrigo Bentancur’s red card left Spurs with ten men, yet Dominic Solanke scored in stoppage time to make it 1-1.

Dropping points in those circumstances will only add to the pressure on Carrick, who needs a response from his players quickly.

Could Julian Nagelsmann be United’s next manager?

Julian Nagelsmann has previously been linked with the Old Trafford job, and the latest report has brought his name back into the conversation. The 39-year-old’s representatives are reportedly open to hearing United’s plans, but there is no confirmed agreement or evidence that formal negotiations have taken place.

Carrick’s achievements last season bought him the permanent role, but the opening weeks of this campaign have left little room for further slip-ups.
