Bryan Mbeumo reacts to Man Utd draw with Tottenham

Bryan Mbeumo admitted Manchester United have work to do after their frustrating 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur, despite scoring a superb second-half goal at Old Trafford.

The Cameroon international put Manchester United ahead in the 73rd minute, finishing in the far corner after Matheus Cunha created the opportunity from a low cross. However, Dominic Solanke’s stoppage-time equaliser denied Michael Carrick’s side a much-needed victory, even though Tottenham had been reduced to 10 men following Rodrigo Bentancur’s red card.

Manchester United have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games against sides that have received a red card (D1 L2).

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mbeumo acknowledged that United had taken too long to find their rhythm.

“We took time to get into the game, but we played well in the second half. In the first half, that wasn’t us, we had to change. We tried to get at them,” he said.

Mbeumo admits Man Utd must improve

Mbeumo recognised the threat Tottenham posed and admitted the result was disappointing, particularly given United’s position in the game before Solanke’s late goal.

“We know Spurs have good players who can be dangerous. It’s a bit disappointing, we need to work on things.”

United have struggled for consistency in the opening weeks of the season, and dropping points after taking the lead will do little to ease the pressure on Carrick. Mbeumo, however, insisted the team must look ahead rather than dwell on the setback.

“We need to keep going forward, as we have a lot of games.”

Carrick praises Mbeumo after another goal

Michael Carrick was pleased with Mbeumo’s contribution, highlighting both the quality of his finish and the different roles he has played since joining United.

“Bryan’s done great. It was a fantastic finish again; he’s obviously played different roles for us but we know what he offers,” the United manager said.

“He’s got good quality and obviously the more goals he scores, the better. He’s doing really well for us.”

Mbeumo’s goal was one of the few bright moments in another difficult afternoon for United. Carrick’s team must now find a way to turn things around from here after just six points from six games.
