21/09/14 – PREMIER LEAGUE – LEICESTER CITY 5-3 MANCHESTER UNITED – The most recent fixture with the Foxes is the one we’d all like to forget about. A horror show earlier on in the season, the reds went 2 goals up twice at 2-0 and 3-1, playing some great football and scoring some wonderful goals before a sensational collapse meant Leicester scored 4 times in 20 second half minutes with David Nugent, Esteban Cambiasso, Jamie Vardy and Leonardo Ulloa all on target.
13/04/04 – PREMIER LEAGUE – MANCHESTER UNITED 1-0 LEICESTER CITY – 10 years earlier before they spent a decade in the lower leagues, a rare goal from Gary Neville separated the sides the last time Leicester visited Old Trafford in a rather meaningless end of season game, with United someway off the unbeatable Arsenal side and Leicester already doomed down at the bottom.
27/09/03 – PREMIER LEAGUE – LEICESTER CITY 1-4 MANCHESTER UNITED – The champions comfortably beat newly promoted Leicester thanks to a clinical hat-trick from Ruud Van Nistelrooy and one from Roy Keane, on United’s first visit to the recently opened King Power Stadium in early September 2003.
05/11/02 – LEAGUE CUP – MANCHESTER UNITED 2-0 LEICESTER CITY – A hard fought win in the end for United on bonfire night, with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. The team was much changed, with a mix of youth and experience, as per usual in the Worthington Cup as it was known back then. This showed in the goal scorers, David Beckham grabbing the first before a young Kieran Richardson sealed United’s progress.
06/04/02 – PREMIER LEAGUE – LEICESTER CITY 0-1 MANCHESTER UNITED – One of the last games at Leicester’s old ground Filbert Street, the reds edged a close encounter with a goal from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. United were chasing Arsenal at the top of the table and also competing on the European front, the game coming between a quarter-final double header against Deportivo La Coruna. Leicester on the other hand were staring relegation from the top flight in the face for the first time since 1995.
CLASSIC ENCOUNTER – 16/01/99 – PREMIER LEAGUE – LEICESTER CITY 2-6 MANCHESTER UNITED
In the midst of the treble season, Leicester faced a rampant United side who showed no signs of weakness, particularly in this game. Dwight Yorke put United in the lead before the Foxes equalised, but then the league leaders really clicked into gear, a hat-trick for Yorke, two for Andy Cole and a rare goal for Jaap Stam in the last minute. Leicester went onto to finish in mid table, and United, well the rest, as they say, is history…
