1. Do United have a plan A?
All too often in recent weeks Manchester United have employed a “plan B” which was to pump long balls into the big man Marouane Fellaini and hope for a chance off a knockdown. It is quite obvious that we have this plan B but that in itself begs the question, what is our Plan A? Last weekend United scored a lovely free flowing move finished off by Herrera, it seems that United go into a panic mode when we meet some resistance and all the planning of proper attacking football slips the players mind and they automatically revert to the long ball game.
2. Players playing for their future?
With news breaking yesterday that Louis van Gaal and chief executive will be soon speaking to certain players regarding their Manchester United futures, this might drive the players to perform and make a statement that they are of the right quality to play for United. Players on the “list” may include loanee Radamel Falcao, Rafael among others.
3. Possible Sunderland threats
Although the black cats are currently hanging above the relegation zone by the skin of their teeth, they do have a select few players that can capitalize on mistakes made by United. Jermaine Defoe, the English striker is back in the premier league after a brief stint in the MLS with Toronto FC, he will be looking to start some sort of scoring form. Sebastian Larson, the Swedish Midfielder is a dangerous player from a dead ball and United will have to be careful about free kicks close to the box.
4. Another change of formation?
When we talk about United’s season so far we often talk about what formation United deploy. 352, 442 or 433, none so far seem to be providing the type of play that United fans were used to in the Fergie Era. Maybe another switch is needed in the hope of reviving the form of old, 4231 might be the key to unlocking success and has been for the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. A formation deploying one striker allows for a much more compact midfield when defending and a more dynamic and interchangeable forward line when attacking.
5. Radamel Falcao
With recent reports that Falcao has had his chances to prove his worth at the club, the Colombian will be looking to capitalize on the unfortunate injuries to both attacking partners , Robin Van Persie and James Wilson. With time running out, it is now or never for a player who prior to his injury, was arguably the world’s most feared number 9. Tomorrow will be a real chance to impress with the lack of competition and here’s to hoping that he plays well enough to warrant his buyout because he is a force to be reckoned with, on form.
