Manchester United v Arsenal: Last five meetings

Manchester United host Arsenal on Monday night in the FA cup. In recent years, United boast an excellent record over the London club and the reds will certainly be hoping that run continues tomorrow. Here is a look back at the last 5 fixtures between the two rivals.

22nd November 2014: Arsenal 1-2 Manchester United.

Manchester United came out on top and claimed all 3 points but the result painted a completely different picture than the actual game as Manchester United were bombarded by the Arsenal attack. An own goal from Kieran Gibbs and a flawless finish by the Captain Wayne Rooney secured the spoils for United as Olivier Giroud grabbed a consolation goal for the gunners.

Arsenal hosted Manchester United in a game that many may wish to forget in terms of match quality. Arsenal, who were struggling after a massive 5-1 defeat at the hands of Liverpool, were looking to make amends with a victory over United which, didn’t come. Van Persie and Giroud had the best chances but it wasn’t to be for either side.

10th November 2013 Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal.

Arsenal, off the back of good performances against Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund, were looking to continue their good form and had a majority share of the possession. It wasn’t to be Arsenal’s day though, as former gunner Robin Van Persie headed home from a Wayne Rooney corner.

28th April 2013 Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United.

Arsenal formed a guard of honour for United, after the club secured title number 20. The game was tough and hotly contested early on and a stray pass from Robin Van Persie allowed Tomas Rosicky to slot in Theo Walcott for an early and controversial opener. That mistake was soon rectified by the Dutchman though, as Van Persie dispatched a spot kick after a clumsy foul by Bacary Sagna.

3rd November 2013 Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal.

Another feisty encounter this, as an early goal from Van Persie set the tone for another United win. Thomas Vermalen botched his clearance from an early Rafael cross into the path of the Dutchman who kindly obliged with a left foot strike past Vito Mannone. Patrice Evra nodded a second after a cross from Rooney and the game was all but sealed. Wilshere was sent of with about thirty minutes to go, before a sublime consolation goal from Santi Cazorla.

Manchester United will need to be up for this game tomorrow regardless of past form against Arsenal if the club is to progress to Wembley and claim that illusive FA Cup.
