Newcastle United have made an enquiry over the temporary signing of 19-year-old James Wilson, according to reports.
The Manchester United striker has only managed two starts for the Red Devils this season, and multiple cameos from the bench have left the youngster desiring gametime. Louis van Gaal has also previously expressed his intentions to send the forward out on loan to gain first team experience next season.
However, it is also believed the Dutchman will hope to send the Englishman to a fellow Premier League club, in order to allow the youth international to gain experience of the highest level. A number of sources have since suggested Wilson could be heading to St. James’ Park on a season-long loan.
Van Gaal remains adamant the player has a future at the Theatre of Dreams, and is determined to ensure his long-term future is with the Manchester outfit. He is also expecting the youngster to sign a new contract in the coming months.
Previous Red Devils have headed to the Toon on loan, most notably Giuseppe Rossi’s switch in 2006 – as Michael Owen, prior to his days with United, was ruled out injured. Unfortunately, Newcastle only handed the Italian international three starts, and didn’t pervade supporters with confidence.
James Wilson has been tipped as a future replacement for Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie.
