Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley believes his days are over at Old Trafford, having spent the season on loan with FA Cup finalists Aston Villa.
The 25-year-old was unfortunate to suffer a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Arsenal in the final of the prestigious competition, but joining former Red Devil Kieran Richardson, Cleverley feels he will struggle to leave the West Midlands outfit, and has no desire to return to the Theatre of Dreams after the wealth of criticism previously received.
The central midfielder has found a new wave of opportunities at Villa Park, enjoying his involvement under Tim Sherwood. With England manager Roy Hodgson recently declaring he could be considered for international selection once again based on form, Cleverley is expected to push for a permanent move away from Manchester.
However, with interest from Everton also on the horizon, Cleverley may have featured in his last game in the cup defeat. Manchester United have confirmed they will not offer the ‘flop’ a new contract, and the midfielder is happy with the decision to pursue his career elsewhere.
“I think we can draw a line under that one,” said Cleverley. “I want to get my future sorted before I go away in the summer and get married. I’ve not made any decision yet.”
When asked whether leaving Aston Villa would be difficult, he responded: “Absolutely, one hundred per cent. I’m enjoying myself here, fantastic group of lads, and a great manager.”
31 league appearances throughout the season has seen the midfielder become a regular in the Villains’ set-up, in a side who have impressed considerably since a change of management. He also boasted a single league appearance for the Red Devils, as well as six appearances in the FA Cup.
Cleverley netted three goals in the last five league fixtures, and will be hoping to have impressed the former Tottenham Hotspur boss for a contract.
