BACKGROUND
Starting out in his native country, Adnan Januzaj had spells with FC Brussels and Anderlecht as part of his youth career before departing as a 16 year old boy for England and Old Trafford in particular. It was during the 2012/13 campaign that Sir Alex gave the then-teen his big first-team breakthrough. Although it was under David Moyes that he flourished and developed the skills that United observed and took a liking to during his time at Anderlecht. Despite wearing Belgium’s colours, the winger could represent a host of countries; in fact, whispers of him being a candidate for the England side were once in full flow.
STRENGTHS
Januzaj is a versatile option for Manchester United, able to ply his trade out wide or just behind the striker in the number 10 role. Here, the youngster showboats his fancy footwork and willingness to take on any opponent; no matter shape or size. His tender years mean he can accelerate down those flanks with electric pace. The position in which the 20-year-old plays is key for utilizing his sometimes almost laser-guided crosses. You could consider him a luxury somewhat as opposed to the engine of the side. The attacking-minded individual is overall a pleasure to watch as he glides along the surface.
WEAKNESSES
Despite his enthusiasm to lock horns with his opposite numbers, this often results in the Red Devils’ academy graduate being a little too ambitious and getting caught out and robbed by our rivals. His slender physique also means that despite being able to skip past several opponents, the Belgian is quite often belittled by a more resilient model. Additionally, the Reds’ number 11 unfortunately does not deploy his pace to get back for defensive duties and his age also means Januzaj’s naivety to make some rash tackles.
EXPECTATIONS
His deliveries have been compared to that of Beckham’s but we won’t be expecting too much, too soon. Although it might be that it is to be another side that will be asking of Januzaj next season as he is looking likely to leave in a loan transfer. However, upon his return, we will be hoping for a player who has much more of a wealth of experience notched under his belt, learning of the beautiful game and disciplining himself. Also, we might wish that the winger has thickened his skin on his arrival back at the Theatre of Dreams.
