Phil Jones Ruled out for 3 Weeks

Manchester United have confirmed that defender Phil Jones missed the 1-0 opening day victory through injury.

The 23-year-old was absent from the match-day squad and it has been announced that he is suffering from ‘mild thrombosis’ and he will miss up to three weeks with the injury.

Jones, who has won 17 England caps, has been plagued with injuries during his time at United and he was forced to watch his teammates secure a narrow opening day win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Kyle Walker inadvertently stabbed home the winning goal after just 22 minutes as United began the new season in complete contrast to last year, when they were beaten 2-1 at home to Swansea City.

Phil Jones was a regular starter at centre-back during United’s pre-season tour of the United States but his withdrawal saw Chris Smalling partner Daley Blind in the centre of defence.

Since arriving from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, Jones has made 128 appearances for United, scoring 5 goals.
