Team News – PSV vs Manchester United

Wayne Rooney will not take any part in Manchester United’s Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday after he was left out of Louis van Gaal’s squad for the trip to the Netherlands.

The captain missed the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool after reportedly suffering a hamstring injury, and the manager is not taking any risks with his fitness and will hope that the striker will recover in time for Sunday’s Premier League game against Southampton.

van Gaal’s 20-man squad includes James Wilson, who had been linked with a loan move to numerous Championship sides, while Andreas Pereira, signed from PSV as a 16-year old, has recovered from an injury suffered on international duty with Brazil’s Olympic squad to take his place on the plane to Eindhoven.

The rest of the squad for the group stage opener against the Dutch champions is as expected, with Memphis Depay expected to start against his former side, while David de Gea will make his first start in Europe since signing a new four-year contract to remain at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United squad to return to the UEFA Champions League is as follows:

Squad:

Goalkeepers – David de Gea, Sergio Romero.

Defenders – Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Paddy McNair, Luke Shaw.

Midfielders – Michael Carrick, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira, Ashley Young.

Forwards – Memphis Depay, Marouane Fellaini, Anthony Martial, James Wilson.
