Schneiderlin: “Let’s prove title credentials”

Manchester United face Arsenal in a crunch Premier League clash this weekend, and Morgan Schneiderlin believes that the Reds can make a statement by beating the Gunners.

United are one point clear at the top of the table after beating Sunderland last weekend, but Sunday’s trip to north London will be the sternest test that the Reds have faced so far this season and starts off a tricky run of Premier League fixtures, culminating in a Manchester derby against City at the tail end of October.

Schneiderlin has done well since joining in the summer from Southampton, and speaking to MUTV, said that the side wants to show everyone that they deserve to be top of the table so far.

“I am looking forward to the game, very much so, because the Emirates is a great stadium and they are a good team,” the French international said. “I think Arsenal will be there competing for the title until the end and it is up to us to make a statement on Sunday.”

Last year they had a good result against United in the FA Cup and we had a good result against them in the league, so we know we can win this game and it is going to be a battle. We want to make a statement and show everyone that we deserve to be in first place.

United are coming off a comeback victory in the Champions League midweek against Wolfsburg, while Arsenal’s European hopes took a hammer blow with a defeat against Olympiakos at the Emirates Stadium, and Schneiderlin admits that this game could be a good platform for the Gunners to bounce back.

“They need to bounce back and this is a good platform for them to do it, but we do not focus on what they are feeling and do not give importance to it,” he said.

The defensive midfielder added: “They have good qualities all over the pitch and we need to be aware, we need to concentrate. If we play our game then we have every chance to win the game. We know that they have weaknesses and we will try to exploit them as much as possible.”
