It is widely believed that Ryan Giggs will take over as manager of Manchester United when Louis van Gaal calls it a day – presumably in May 2017 – but will there be a former Champions League winner among his coaching staff?
Benni McCarthy, who was part of Jose Mourinho’s Porto squad which won the UEFA Champions League in 2004, has spoken out about his desire to join the Manchester United setup.
When Mourinho left Porto, he tried to sign the South African striker, but McCarthy instead went to Blackburn Rovers, who were still in the Premier League at the time. He scored 37 league goals in 109 appearances for the Ewood Park side, before moving to West Ham United.
Now, McCarthy is retired and looking to go into the world of football management:
“I dream of arriving in the Premier League, and if possible at Manchester United, my favourite club since I was little,” he said, speaking to Voetbal International.
Sport Witness claim that the South African has already completed his UEFA B License qualification and is working on achieving an A license – meaning he could coach at the top level.
Would you like to see him as part of Ryan Giggs’ backroom staff in the future?
