Louis van Gaal has insisted that Manchester United’s board need to sign Tottenham striker Harry Kane, according to The Express.
This is the Dutchman’s first step to leaving a ‘legacy’ of young players behind at Old Trafford when his contract eventually expires at the end of next season.
He’s determined to make sure that United have a healthy amount of high-quality English youngsters and signing Harry Kane would signal that intent.
Harry Kane has certainly not started the season how he finished last, only managing to find the net once in nine games isn’t a patch on the 21 league goals he got last term.

Man United made it clear that they were interested in Kane over the summer, reportedly holding talks with Tottenham representatives over a possible move. The fee that Spurs were asking for was in the region of £40-50 million. Man United didn’t want to realistically pay more than £30million so they left the deal.
Now that they can see that Kane is under-performing and possibly unhappy at White Hart Lane, they might feel as though they can secure a deal and tempt the player away from Spurs.
Although, Kane’s price is bound to increase due to his involvement in Roy Hodgson’s England side and the probability that he’ll find himself on the plane to next year’s European Championship.

The price of young English players is extremely high nowadays. Raheem Sterling was sold to Manchester City for £50million, a £40million bid for John Stones was turned down by Everton and the saga that followed Saido Berahino throughout the summer proved just how valuable young players are to their respective teams.
Man United know that they’ll have to pay big money if they want to finalise any deal involving Harry Kane, but with the financial backing that they showed the world in the summer, you wouldn’t put it past them to lure the 22-year-old away from his beloved Tottenham.
