Louis van Gaal has delivered the latest team news ahead of Manchester United’s Capital One Cup fourth-round tie against Middlesbrough.
There is only one fresh injury, with Antonio Valencia ruled out after sustaining a foot injury against Manchester City at the weekend.
However, van Gaal admits that several players are in the “red zone” in terms of their fitness levels, but the team for tomorrow’s game is yet to be finalised:
Of course, Valencia is injured – that we could all see. But I have a lot of players in the ‘red zone’ because we have had a lot of matches and we have a lot of matches to play. I have to see if I can use them or not. I have to decide tomorrow [Wednesday]. We need all the days to recover at this moment, so it is difficult to say.
The United manager also says that James Wilson and Andreas Pereira, who scored in the previous round for the Reds against Ipswich, are in contention for a place in the squad, but whether they’ll be in the starting line-up is another question:
Yes, of course they [Wilson and Pereira] are in the selection [the squad]. But I have to select the line-up and that I don’t know. I have to do that on Wednesday.
